Horse Sketch DaVinci No.2 Draft Horse By Colorado Artist Jennifer Morrison

Horse Sketch By Jennifer Morrison.  This Is Modeled After Another One Of DaVinci's Horse Sketches.  This Was One Of His Concepts For His Statue, As It Is A Draft Horse.
DaVinci Was Amazing For His Time... The Muscular Structure Of His Horses Were Exaggerated And He Even Showed Tendons And Ligaments That Aren't Normally Seen Clearly On Horses.  He Ofted Dissected His Subject Matter To Have An Understanding Of The Underlying Muscular And Skeletal System.
I Changed Certain Aspects Of His Sketch.  The Back Legs Do Not Reach As Far Back And I Shortened The Canon Bone -  Also The Neck Is A Little More Slender.  His Nose And Face Was Not Detailed, So I Added More Detail And Changed The Nostril Area.  I Left Off The Rider.
I wanted to use LOTS Of Horse Muscle..  I wanted to make mine different.  I could never attempt to create anything like his masterpieces..

Contemporary Horse Painting Equine Art By Colorado Artist Jennifer Morrison, "Tuscany Dreams" - Tribute To DaVinci

Tuscany Dreams -Tribute To DaVinci
16x20 Inches
Oil On Canvas
This Painting Is Modeled After DaVinci's Horse Sketches He Left Behind.  I Was Inspired To Paint These Horses Utilizing An Italian Feeling With An Old Tuscan Style.  I could never touch his genious mind, nor his artwork, yet I can try and learn from him.

The sketches were actually intended for a sculpture which was completed 5 centuries later. Began by a man named Charles Dent, and finished by a lady names Nina Akamu. It now resides in Milan.

DaVinci was From Italy, So I Found This To Be The Perfect Genre.  I started this painting at midnight about four nights ago and I was up until 3 a.m. working on it.  They say that is the "creative" time in our minds.  I was trying to sleep and the feeling of this painting was on my mind.  I kept trying to ignore it, but I decided to obey and get to work - starting at midnight!  The painting was completed three days later.

Contemporary Landscape Aspen Tree Palette Knife Painting By Colorado Artist Jennifer Morrison, Valley Of Aspens

Valley Of Aspens
Contemporary Palette Knife Aspen Tree Original Oil Painting
36x24 Inches - 1.5 Inch Deep Gallery Wrapped Canvas With Painted Sides - No Frame Needed!

Close Up Of Palette Knife Thick Oil Paint Details

This painting was reserved for the lady who purchased the 5 foot by 5 foot commissioned horse painting, however even at 3 foot tall and 2 foot wide, it is too small for the wall in her home, so it is back up for sale! We have become good friends and I am headed to her house soon to help her pick out paint colors on her wall behind the large horse painting.
All of my paintings are shipped and have been delivered for Christmas, and I hand delievered the 4 foot by 4 foot Cowgirl Runway Painting to the Ocean Prime Restaurant.  My husband and I are getting invitations to a free dining experience before they open!  I cannot wait to see the artwork in the restaurant as I was surprised to find out I was the only Colorado artist they chose to commission work for them.
Well, I have a few artwork puzzle orders going out, and a Zenyatta painting to start soon!
Enjoy!

Comments Recieved On This Painting:
Kelly S. ‎"I'm dreaming of a blue Christmas!" Absoluteley awesome, and, to quote Cary Grant, truly "a masterpiece of understatement." Elegant, ephemeral, and sparkling with natural brilliance (literally and figuratively). Colours are incredible; texture perfect... THIS IS INSPIRED! (E-mail me the details, this may be the very one we've been waiting for!) Your genius is so refined and softspoken, yet it speaks so loudly to the senses, it is almost deafening! I. Am. Speachless! ~Kelly

This Oil Painting Will Be For Sale At The Museum Starting January 11th.

Here is a great video of Zenyatta checking out her new facility in Kentucky:

We ordered the proof to my daughter Jenna's short story novel and it will be available to the public soon.  She has been so excited about winning the contest and having the opportunity to market her story through Amazon.com.  Quite an accomplishment for a 15 year old.  Her and her friend are on the front cover which some may find controversial, but that was not my intention at the time of photographing it.  Neither was it the parents that were standing around at the time of the photographing.  Nobody noticed it - but it was noticed later on.  You'll have to see it for yourself.  Jenna decided she wants to leave it as it is and no changes will be made.  If it was bad enough, I would put my foot down and say "no"!  But it is all a matter of perception.
Jessica loves her new painting of her and her horse!  I couldn't hide it here and so she got to see it when she came home from school yesterday.  Waiting for it to dry, then varnish, then frame!

Horse Contemporary Portrait Painting By Colorado Artist Jennifer Morrison

I Love You
Jessica And Lizzy
Contemporary Horse Portrait Painting
20x16 Inches
Oil On Canvas

This is a gift for my daughter as she has no portrait of her and her horse.  Pink is her favorite color, so we had to make the background pink.  I toned it down and added contrast with some orange and a hint of purple as well.  Jessica showed Lizzy last week at a horse show in three classes and took first place in each class.  She also won high point.  They make a great team together and have respect and love for each other.
I think I am finished with this painting, although I may touch up a few areas that might catch my eye later on.

Three Paint Ponies
Abstract Horse Painting

SOLD Commissioned Painting

Okay, I couldn't leave this painting alone.  Even though it was greatly loved by the owner, I knew it could be even better.  I added more lighting, more softness around the faces and manes.  NOW it is done.  I literally cannot sleep if it is not perfect, as perfection is what I strive for in my work.  I couldn't be more thrilled!  It is a wonderful painting.  Truly unique, colorful and artistic in nature!  I am not a "paint thrower" and I'm sure other artists will be copying this style soon.

HORSE SHOW HORSE SHOW!

Jenna And Maggie - Showmanship

Yesterday was a our first horse show of the year - yes of the year!  And we are starting in December for the 2011 season.

Jessica And Lizzy

My 9 year old's first show.  She was scared to death and crying when she was lined up ready for her first class - and surprised herself when she took home first place blue ribbons in all four of her classes.  When she was crying in line she said, "I can't remember my pattern".  I told her, "Don't worry about it, honey.  Just have fun and do your best."  She was the high point winner.  Showing horses is so good for kids.  It helps boost their confidence and self esteem. We have worked hard training her horse and she has worked hard practicing and it showed.  She was truly professional, her horse was behaving perfectly!  Jenna won first place in showmanship, but her horse did not take the right lead in pleasure.  Jenna then switched horses with her sister for her last class in Senior Novice Horsemanship.  She then won her next blue ribbon!  She now knows what to work on with her horse the rest of the year for fair.  I am so proud of my girls as they have worked VERY hard.  We have no trainer, only help from me and the owners of the facility we are at, which the daughter there is awesome at training and gives us tips all the time.

I received an email yesterday from one of my collectors, "How's the Zenyatta paining coming along"... Zenyatta painting?  Oh, No!  She laughed and told me to wait until after the holidays, as everything is so hectic now.  I took the day off painting yesterday.  I keep looking at my daughter's portrait I sketched and I am anticipating starting it, but I have so many other things on my mind now, and I like to concentrate 100% on my painting.  Otherwise, I will rush and the artwork will not look PERFECT!
I had a gallery from Texas contact me yesterday about carrying my work, so I am working with them.  I am still waiting on the framing for the painting for the Ocean Prime Restaurant.  It certainly has to be done today.
I recieved the invitation last night to the Madden Museum of Art for their artist reception which I will be attending and I have three pieces of artwork there.
My two girls will be showing their horses this Saturday if we don't get too much snow and it will be my 9 year old's first horse show so I am trying to keep her calm.  Christmas?  Oh -- Of course!  We have to do our shopping yet!! LOL!!  Just keep those Lupus flares away so I can keep on with my life :)
Blessings!

The lady that purchased this painting also commissioned the 5 ft by 4 ft painting from me.  We tried the "Valley Of Aspens" tree painting in her home, however even at 36x24 inches, the painting is too small for the space on her wall.  It will be back up for sale again soon!
I was excited to see Tom Cruise following me yesterday on twitter!  Celebrities following my artwork so far:  Lee Ann Womack, Yoko Ono, and Tom Cruise.  SO COOL!
I cracked up at the comment a collector left on my website about this painting!  Thought I would share it with you, read below:

Abstract Horse Painting Equine Original Art By Colorado Artist Jennifer Morrison, Fire Dance Horse - SOLD

Fire Dance Horse
SOLD to a collector in Kentucky!
I just sold this piece last night.  I have had several inquiries about this painting lately and it has been a popular one.
I attended our monthy 4-H meeting when I literally grabbed by the arm on the way out and told by the 4-H extension office coordinator that I WILL be a horse leader for our club.  "Oh, Okay!"  I said..  I was caught off guard.  How exciting to have an opportunity to instruct and teach children about the safety and riding and how to show horses!  Our club is one of the number one clubs in the state as far as champions and reserve champions for State Fair.  I have taught my own daughters and my eldest has already won grand champion for intermediate performance.  This will be my youngest daughter's first year of showing - she is 9.  Jenna is 15 and is in the advanced horse class which she needs to train her horse flying lead changes.  Other than that we are both training and working with the horse for our 9 year old.  Busy and a lot of work to do.  There are a lot of lessons to be learned from working with horses!
