A.P. Indy Commissioned Painting By Jennifer Morrison

A.P. Indy
Commissioned Painting
Here Is The Email Response From The Lady Who Received Her Paintings A.P. Indy And Seattle Slew:

Jennifer,
The painting of A. P. Indy is absolutely incredible! Stunning! I gasped when I saw it through the paper, really gasped.
Now what am I supposed to do? I have the son and the father - now I need the grandfather. How would you feel about painting Secreatariat? I guess he should be on the track (his Belmont stretch run is a terrific picture), although I love the one of him in his pasture (my Twitter background), but we can talk about that later. I might as well have all three, as it is the only sensible thing for a horse-crazed person like me to do! How could you do this to me!
These paintings are so much more beautiful than I could ever have imagined. You truly are an extraordinary painter! Thank you so much for all of your e-mails and follow-ups; you definitely did the photo justice, and then some. My husband couldn't believe that the same artist painted both pictures, and I must say that seeing them side-by-side, your talent is all the more apparent. What a rare gift you possess. I'll be in touch very soon about Secretariat. Oh my, what am I going to do with my overcrowded walls! Thank you, again, for your talent, your integrity, and your friendship. I shall treasure them always.
Sincerely,

♪Kelly

"The Equinest" Magazine Featured Artist - Jennifer L. Morrison

I wanted to share with you a copy of the article from "The Equinest" magazine and my interview with them.  Enjoy!
Where I am
Elizabeth, Colorado – where the deer, antelope, cowgirls and cowboys roam – Honestly!!

Tell us a little about you, what is your background & where do you come from?
I was born in Indianapolis, Indiana and raised in Georgia. I moved to Colorado at 14 years old and have lived here for 24 years.

When did you first start painting horses?
I started sketching horses in 4th grade after reading the book “Ruffian”. Her story broke my heart, yet at the same time sparked my passion for horses.

What is your favorite breed to use as a subject?
The most dramatic breeds for painting are Arabians, Friesians and Andalusians for their beautiful build and dramatic movement and style…. However my favorite breeds of horses are quarter horses and paint horses.

We have two paint horses here at home that we train and show locally.

Why acrylic?
I paint with oil and acrylic. It just depends on the look you want – acrylic paints allow you to layer on top of layer without blending…. Oil smooths out more and blends more – so it really just depends on the look you are after.

Who are your main influences?
K. Madison Moore, Sophy Brown, Franz Marc.

Do you (or did you) have an animal that is the muse behind your work?
Oh Yes! We have two beautiful paint horses here at home. I often take photos of them running around and playing together. I also have a book with other horse breeds that I use for dramatic horse positions (arched necks, legs lifted high, etc.) I also do commission work and have painted several racehorse paintings.

Do you have any secret rituals you do to help you get in the zone for your art?
Okay, it may seem strange, but I have to listen to the Black Eyed Peas! (clean version of course LOL)!
Their music talks about being successful and fearless… This helps me to be bold in my work and experiment with bright colors and just “attack” that canvas!

Is there a particular place that brings you inspiration?
Not really. I guess just studying artwork, looking at all the different genres… I would love to learn how to paint in every genre possible.

What effect do you see the Internet having on the equine industry?
Widespread knowledge with training, horse behavioral issues, medical issues. If there seems to be a problem with the horse – the Internet has valuable information at your fingertips to determine what may be causing problems… Of course if it is an obvious injury the vet should be called out ASAP.

Has it had an effect on your work?
The Internet has great resources for studying various types of artwork from the masters such as Franz Marc.

Which one is your personal favorite piece?
It’s funny – but every new painting I do becomes my new favorite piece! Everytime I have a favorite, I will paint a new one then that one is my new favorite! LOL!!

Would you ever sell it?
Yes, I would – even though I finished my newest painting last night and have it ready to hang over the fireplace, it is for sale.

What else are you passionate about?
We love training horses, showing horses… I love seeing my daughters connect with the horse as if they are “one”.

They become completely in sync with each other during performance time…. It is obvious to the audience and they often score high because of the bond and cooperation between the horse and rider.

Working on anything new?
I am constantly working on new paintings. I paint about two paintings a week…
Thanks to Jennifer for answering the interview and sharing her work. Be sure to check out her art website periodically for updates about her latest works.
